I WAS BEING RIDICULOUS, BUT I DIDN’T REALISE.

I once stopped myself from making a video because I thought no one would care, but I ended up proving myself so completely wrong.

I was convinced that my everyday life was boring. I suffered from the Curse of Familiarity, where everything about your life seems so ordinary and mundane to you that you think it’s boring, and that others would find it boring too.

But one day, I was reading through the comments on a previous video of mine. In the video, I was talking to the camera whilst walking down a street I’d walked down so many times before.

Sure, the village was pretty, but I see these villages all the time; they’re just part of everyday life for me. Who would care, right?

When I read the comments on that video, so many people were asking where I was:

“That looks stunning, where is it? I’d love to go”, one comment read.

Another: “I wish I lived somewhere like that. That’s beautiful! 😍”

It occurred to me that there are people out there who only get to experience things from the videos you share. The same goes for you. How many times have you watched a video in awe of where someone is or what they’re doing? Or been captivated by a seemingly ordinary experience that someone shared?

So from that day on I told myself I would film the “ordinary” motions of my life. Take a climbing video I shared recently, for example; back then, I would have thought, “who cares?”

But I think about the countless climbing videos I’ve watched and thoroughly enjoyed watching, and will keep watching. I’m glad those people posted instead of thinking, “who’s gonna care?”
